Fall is the perfect time of the year to finish any home improvement projects you’ve been putting off. Whether you’re getting a new roof or investing in windows or doors replacement, the mild conditions of fall make this an ideal time to tackle projects on your home’s exterior.
Today, Renewal by Andersen® of Oklahoma shares some useful pointers to keep in mind when scheduling your door installation during the fall.
Pay Attention to the Forecast
Early fall weather tends to be mild, making it a great time to replace your doors. Still, rainy days can occur, so you’ll need to consult the extended forecast before scheduling your project. For projects that require weatherproof sealant products, you will need a minimum of 24 hours for the seal to set, during which time you don’t want any moisture exposure.
The weather conditions should also factor into your choice of caulking. Cold temperatures cause latex- or acrylic-based caulk to become brittle and crack. As a good rule of thumb, talk to your contractor about using silicone-based products because these are better at sticking to your doors (or windows) and are generally more energy-efficient.
Whether you choose sliding or French doors, you’ll need a sealant that allows high joint movements. Talk to your contractor about their sealant choices before the installation. Look for products that have at least 25% movement as indicated in the packaging.
